NATAL ASTROLOGY
Natal Astrology is a branch of astrology commonly used in astrological consulting. It sets focus on a person’s natal chart with its possibilities, potentials and problems, and ways for them to be embraced or resolved. Many astrologers think of it as inseparable from different predictive techniques, but natal and predictive astrology are very much different and mostly differ in the intent of the astrologer to speak of one’s personality or one’s future – two very different things.
How does it Work?
Like all branches of astrology and each specific approach, natal astrology is based on the Theory of Synchronicity, or a claim that our moment of birth and the first breath we took, is in correlation with the Universe and positions of celestial bodies at that time. Many people will be born on the same day, but very few of them at the same time and in the same city. Even among these, differences will be made based on their family members and their upbringing.
The main thing to keep in mind when practicing Natal Astrology is that every single thing in a natal chart has many forms of expression. We live out our natal chart stories every day, and we can recognize them in many other techniques through psychological patterns, energy blockages, daily routine “mistakes”, etc.
About Fear
You will see that many times clients come scared of what their astrologer has to say. But fear doesn’t stop there. Many astrologers will start their panic spree as soon as they see a maleficent planet approaching their Moon or their Ascendant ruler. No matter if you are a practitioner or a client, what you need to keep in mind is – you live out your chart every day. Every aspect and position in it is deeply seeded in your being. You were born with it and just like you can’t run away from your physical body before you dye, you won’t be able to escape your natal chart either, nor should you.
Natal planetary position serves as our base, our airport for anything that will land into our lives throughout them. Challenging aspects will carry their lessons just like beneficent conjunctions will bring us joy, but we cannot live out any scary story that isn’t written in out chart to begin with, and confirmed with at least three predictive methods.
Astrologers and Clients
Every Astrologer has a responsibility to understand the connection they make with a client. This is a bond of two people who both represent planets in each other’s charts. Every astrologer speaks with their own planet in each consultation, and every client listens to one of theirs in return. Pretty much like all the other relationships in our lives, this one will be based on respect and mutual understanding.
Challenges
Astrologer has a task to help the client understand their purpose, their abilities and passions, without interfering in decision making processes explicitly or taking initiative for their client’s life. This contact brings two strong challenges to each practitioner.
The first challenge lies in the fact that a client comes open and fragile to seek help and guidance. This is the emotional challenge that has to be fully understood at all times, so that no hurt is caused and full compassion is established at the start of this relationship.
The second challenge is triggered by trust and responsibility mixed in this complicated mush. While many clients know how to set clear boundaries, their belief in Astrology and hope for a glimpse of an incredible future makes them sensitive to pointless bruises to the ego. An Astrologer has to explain firmly that no event is written in stone and that the client is fully responsible for their own life.
Pre-Reading
The first thing you want to do before reading anyone’s natal chart is read your own. Everything can be found there, including clients, opportunities, difficulties and astrology. Every astrologer needs to know how to interpret their own chart in order to approach a client in any ethical way. In addition, this will lead to many discoveries and a lot of excitement in each of us as we discover how astrology works in our own lives.
Natal Chart Reading
A natal chart reading always begins with the interpretation of an Ascendant. This is the explicit representative of the first breath we took and the point that defines our physical body in this lifetime. The first house will naturally be a part of this physical and basic character interpretation, while the Ascendant ruler represents our guiding planet and points to our greatest focus in this lifetime. We will be sure to observe the first house and its ruler in as much detail as possible, including all the positive and negative aspects to our interpretation, and trying to understand the energy of this incredible mix. It is important to understand planetary symbolism, dignities and the importance of the first house ruler in defining our personality and nature.
Still, it is even more important to never forget that each person is represented by every celestial body, house and sign in their chart. Every single bit of the circle will speak of a bit of our personality, and it seems impossible for the human brain to connect them all into one whole. In lack of a better intellectual tool to bring so many variables together into one image, we have to find other ways to “connect the dots”.
With this said, we have to understand that the only way to truly understand a person is to listen closely and hear what they have to say, sense where they are at the moment, and translate their words into the symbol language of their chart. Only then will we be able to swim out with information of relevance and give all the necessary compassion and respect to the person standing in front of us.
PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY
We need to understand that Predictive Astrology is not the same as Natal Astrology. In fact, their core is different, for one of them serves our need to foretell the future or predict the outcome of a certain event, while the other helps our personality and growth reliant on the moment of our birth.
Basic Rules
However different from Natal Astrology, the branch of Predictive Astrology relates to it greatly, for no event in our lives has the ability to manifest if it isn’t supported by our natal chart. For example, if there is a trine between Venus and Saturn in one of the predictive techniques, a person that has no relationship between these planets, or has a challenging one, won’t feel full benefits of this positive aspect. Everything found in predictive techniques has to be confirmed in a natal chart as a possibility.
To add to that, every single prediction made, has to be found in and confirmed through three predictive methods to be considered correct. This doesn’t mean the prediction will come true with certainty, but it makes the possibility of the event ethically appropriate. As astrologers, we are here to promote freewill and help others understand their path and their responsibilities. If a person understands they are in control of events in their life, they might be ready to truly make a change and shift their consciousness to a higher step towards enlightenment.
Predictive Techniques
There are many predictive techniques, for this branch of Astrology has been approached from numerous angles and used for centuries. Curiosity continuously triggers matters of foretelling, and at some point in life almost every individual wants to know what the future will bring.
When speaking of the future, we have to remember that in some situations it is quite easily predicted even without a chart of any kind. Simple human logic can often provide answers to some of the questions that come our way. Still, if we decide to become professional astrologers, it is not our job to use personal experience or guess what will happen, but to use charts as guidance for events and specific explanations of possible outcomes.
Commonly used techniques include transits, the solar return, progressions, directions and harmonics. We also know that each planet rules a certain period of life, and in general interpretations this can give a “shade” of the state a person is currently in.
Time Frames
To cover all matters regarding timeline of events in life, we have to have knowledge on the speed of each sign. In some situations, Horary Astrology can serve to be a very good tool for predictions. It will give us specific timelines to questions “When will…” through quality of the zodiac signs and houses and orbs of relevant aspects.
Cardinal being the fastest of all signs, will speak of events that will take place soon, in short time units such as minutes, hours, days or weeks, depending on the form of the question and actual possibilities. Mutable signs will follow as changeable and pretty fast, but not that drastic and evident. Their timelines will cover timelines of days, weeks, months and sometimes years if this would be a moderate expectation for the specific situation. Fixed quality is the slowest of all. It takes time and represents wider areas on its scale. When we see a planet set in a fixed sign, we know it will manifest slowly, in years, even decades, or sometimes months if this sounds long for the event in question.
Planetary Aspects
No matter which predictive technique we choose to use, or if we observe slowly moving planets or personal, fast ones, every event has a peak when its manifestation is actually probable. This peak will never be connected to the time after significant aspects already took place. Distant planets, especially Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, will give a general atmosphere even when they passed the moment of the exact aspect with another celestial body of importance, but triggers to events will always be in close application to an aspect when the event is to take place.
Positive aspects will bring as many events as negative ones, and we can feel some of them more strongly than the others simply because we are personally linked with them in our chart. This always gives a fine balance of “good and evil” in our lives, things we should be thankful for cause they smell of perfection, and those that will bring us down and make us bend.
The tricky thing is to realize that there are no bad experiences or situations. Each of them is simply a pointer on our path and a reminder that we might be in the right or in the wrong place, and always at the right time. When we are in complete balance with our mission in life, challenges will become smaller and smaller until they fade, and the Universe will be happy to support us on our path.
RELATIONSHIP ASTROLOGY
Astrology can be used not only to understand the entity of one person, but also its relationship with another entirely different individual. To understand the middle ground between two (or more) people, their possible troubles and areas in which the energy flow is easy and calm, we use Relationship Astrology.
Relationships in the Zodiac
This branch of Astrology is widely used not exactly because of the magic of love and romance, but because relationships are what truly defines our inner being. The entire zodiac circle is made of oppositions, speaking of 6 types of relationships that 12 signs of the zodiac have. Each aspect is a relationship itself, and every disposition they have will show colors and shades to them and their additional diversity.
Without relationships we would not be human and wouldn’t be here at all, for they don’t come down to us and other people, but also our relationships with our bodies, hearts and minds. Others are just our own mirror and the way we see them will speak of our inner states and things we cherish or things we have trouble resolving. Whatever annoys us in others is a large part of our own character, and we should keep this in mind every second of the way, in every conflict we have to resolve.
Techniques and Horoscopes
In Relationship Astrology, as in all other branches of Astrology, we have to stay aware that nothing between two people can manifest if it is not already presented in both separate natal charts. We all connect on so many levels, set in each other’s charts as different planets or lights. We need to assign roles to each person we want to study our relationship with, and see from our own chart what’s their goal, where do we connect, how do they serve us in this lifetime, and how do we serve them.
Synastry
To study a relationship between two people, we will usually compare their charts through synastry first. This is a technique of comparison of two birth charts with all of their natal planetary positions, houses and aspects. If we see that a planet in one chart has an exact aspect with a planet in the other chart, we know that this is an important link between these individuals.
The more aspects we share, the more we have to learn from our bond, and the role of each planet will be of great importance too. So for a romantic relationship we will expect aspects between Venuses or a strong contact through sexual links between the Moon and Mars, Venus and Mars, or one Mars with the other.
In synastry, we will find it important to view at dispositions in one another’s chart. This means that if one person has a planet in a certain sign, we understand the importance of the position of the other person’s ruler of this sign. This will be the planet that leads the first one into its specific dignity and aspects. For example, the positive situation would be to see two partners, one of which has the Moon in Capricorn, and the other Saturn in Taurus. This would mean that the first person is being taught by their partner to find love within and form a home and family values they generally lack.
Composite Charts
Once we settle on the first contact between two people through synastry, we will turn to composite chart of their relationship. There are two types of composite charts, the first one being the Midpoint method (all planetary positions are a mathematical middle of individual natal positions) and Davison, or Time and Space method(all positions are real for the exact middle time between the births).
The main difference between these two charts is in the way they are created, the first being a list of imaginary points in space that define the way the relationship is seen, and the second a list of actual positions for the middle time that define the true entity lived between two people. Combined, they will give us a glimpse of one bond as a third individual that keeps two people together, and the way it is observed and approached, as well as where it actually leads.
Feminine and Masculine Planets
We mostly live by archetypes absorbed from our society and the level of consciousness of our entire human race. It is impossible to completely avoid the concept of masculine and feminine roles, although we all have both sides lurking within. When we interpret relationships between individuals of opposite sex, in most cases each of them will take on the role of their corresponding planets and lights, meaning that female partners will be presented by Moon and Venus, just like male partners will take the role of the Sun and Mars.
Some of us will be asexual in this context if our role overcomes the archetype, so a female teacher with a significant teaching role will often be presented by Jupiter even though it mostly speaks of Zeus and the masculine principle within. Or a male artist might take on the role of Venus with a little more ease. This is similar to the way we look at children through Mercury, a planet of both sexes and intellectual asexuality.
In case of same-sex relationships, especially romantic ones, an astrologer will have to ask specific questions to determine which partner tends to take which role. In this case, we will usually be led by the older partner as the one to show a bit more of masculine qualities, and by a personal description that will fit a certain planet or light in a certain sign.
FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY
Financial Astrology doesn’t have the same meaning in different parts of the world, even though its purpose always promotes financial wellbeing of an individual or a group. In the United States, this is a branch used to determine the flow of the stock market and overall economy conditions, while in countries that don’t have a high standard it rather points to consulting and advice on money making and the economy of an individual, their company, or simply offers a mundane view of the financial situation in the country.
In the United States, this is a branch also called Business Astrology or Economic Astrology, and it is one of the most popular branches, used and even studied by non-astrologers to be implemented in their financial decisions. Schools and lectures are available in a rising number, and many economists that have to handle risky investments choose to rely on advice given by a professional astrologer using this branch.
Popularity
In 1992, 1994 and 2008, a magazine named Wall Street Forecaster was considered one of the top forecasters on Wall Street. Copies of this magazine were delivered in “brown paper” to avoid mockery, as users rely on superstition using its forecasts. The Astro fund trading company claimed that over 10% of fund managers were using their service or a service of a similar company, to gain insight on the market flow. The majority of the market demand has come from the U.S. and Japan.
Financial Astrology in Other Countries
Lower standard and different economy approach in different countries of the world doesn’t allow the use of this approach connected to the stock market. Even though the term will mostly be used for this specific purpose of Financial Astrology, we have to understand that there are financial astrologers who simply work with individuals, their career path or their companies. In case or personal interpretations, advice is given for a specific situation, investment or financial decision, or the overall path that should be taken to find satisfaction in the material world.
In this approach, this branch will be intertwined with Electional Astrology to determine the best possible moment for starting a company, making an investment or taking a loan. We could say that from this perspective the branch of Fianancial Astrology is simply a part of Natal Astrology as well, for it simply turns attention to one specific area of life, but they don’t really share the same goal. While Natal Astrology will focus on rising overall awareness of the individual, help in making large life changes in a direction of one’s evolution, Financial Astrology will stick to houses and signs in the element of Earth and focus mainly on practical issues that lead to the material satisfaction of the client.
Differences
When speaking of these two approaches, we should keep in mind that their timelines and use are quite different. While “Wall Street” Financial Astrology gives unchangeable circumstances and a simple “go-with-the-flow” way of implementation, other approaches are flexible and will allow the client to choose the right time for an action using election, help in recognizing future events, and give room for a personal change that will lead to a life change in regard to finances.
ELECTIONAL ASTROLOGY
The branch of Astrology that focuses on choosing the right moment for any future activity is called Electional Astrology or Event Astrology. Its main objective is to help someone calm their challenging natal aspects by a simple choice of the moment, and accent positive natal positions to turn the image to their benefits. It cannot change one’s natal chart and it is impossible to run from the scope of one’s ability, but we can create something easier to work with and rely on the flow we are able to create.
The Purpose
Election isn’t a tool for overcoming everything “bad” we have in our chart. In no way can it help us completely avoid everything brought on us by the time we were born in. The only way for a person to overcome their natal chart is to get enlightened, take responsibility for everything that goes on around them on a wider scale, and truly make moves that are in sync with the Universe.
On a lower scale, Electional Astrology has a task to help us choose the most beneficent time that pushes us in the right direction, and helps us avoid negative aspects from our chart to some point or handle them with a little more ease. If a person has a challenging sixth house positioning and its ruler, it will be hard for them to have respectful (respected) and loyal employees. By choosing a moment that will emphasize at least one positive aspect or show a better connection of the same planets in the sky than the one in a natal chart, a person will be able to deal with this calm and with more flexibility.
There is no such thing as an ideal electional horoscope. Every moment in time has its challenges and our main objective will be to find the one where personal challenging aspects won’t be the same as mundane ones.
Choosing the Right Time
The most important thing to observe for the moment we choose for any event is the position of the Moon. It has to be well adjusted in correlation to a person’s natal chart, and also well positioned in the chart of the moment. This is why we will rarely choose a descending Moon for any activity in which loss is not required (diet, quitting smoking, etc.) The first aspect the Moon will form is of outmost importance as the gravity pull of the creation of this time. Our only interest will be on applications since separation from an aspect speaks of events that already took place. When using Electional Astrology, we are always turned to the future, and we simply set the moment as a base for the future, looking only at what comes after it.
Maleficent planets such as Mars and Saturn shouldn’t be at angular houses or close to the Ascendant, Descendant, IC or MC. The Ascendant of this chart specifically represents the energy of the moment and it should be positioned in a sign that fits the activity and the nature of the event, while also supporting a person’s natal chart in the best possible way. We will also avoid retrograde planets and planets or lights void of course.
There are many things that should be well adjusted in our choice of the perfect time, and although this approach might even seem magical, it is a simple valuable tool, with its existence already shown in our horoscope. It allows us to make a few shortcuts and use the best things we have in our charts in the best possible way.
HORARY ASTROLOGY
Horary Astrology is a special branch of Astrology that provides answers to questions that an astrologer becomes aware of in a certain moment of time. No birth chart readings are necessary for this technique and it is solely relying on the Theory of Synchronicity and the astrologer’s belief in the causality of time.
Purpose and Benefits
In ancient times, it was often impossible to determine the exact moment a person was born. This resulted in the development of astrological teachings and techniques that are not dependent of the moment of birth, but relate to the specific moment in time – now or in the future. In general, two branches of Astrology don’t depend on our natal chart and these are Horary and Electional Astrology.
Horary Astrology reads an answer to any question based on the chart of the moment the astrologer clearly understood the question. Its basic principle lies in the fact that it is no coincidence that the knowledge of a question makes it in a way born in the head of an astrologer. Although this seems to be a bit vague in its primary basis, we really have no reason to question the synchronicity of each moment in time, and this includes each one when a certain question is asked. This is especially true for questions that have been building up and accumulating until finally becoming the turning point in someone’s life.
There are several truly positive sides to Horary Astrology. Not only does it work without a natal chart, or any additional personal information shared, but it is also fast, to the point, and quite literal in its interpretations. So if you decide to find a lost keychain and ask where it is, you might get a simple answer that defines its location. Also, you could discover whether you are going to marry someone or not, for as long as roles in your relationship are well defined within the question.
Traditional vs. Modern
As a branch of Astrology that was abundantly used in history, Horary Astrology is often the one to dismiss any progress made in the discovery of the Universe or simply progress of Astrology itself. In the traditional approach, the basis of a horary chart is defined within limits of seven visible celestial bodies and Uranus, Neptune and Pluto aren’t taken into consideration. Disposition of each planet will be shoved aside as unimportant, and only rules used in distant past would apply. Traditional astrologers will usually view modern approaches as too “scattered” or “lost”, and missing the point and the real purpose of Astrology.
On the other hand, modern astrologers tend to see traditional ones as stiff and “Saturnian”, forgetting the gifts Saturn actually has for us, and dismissing it as a maleficent pressure-maker that only makes us old and in the end – dead. This is the other side of the same coin when you think about it, for without Saturn and its circles, nothing in our lives would be as it is.
Astrology is ruled by Uranus and as such, it has to embrace the new and find excitement in change. There would be no basis for building up anything in Aquarius and remotely connected to Uranus without accepting the preceding sign of Capricorn and its ruler Saturn. This being said, it is smart to start with the basics, with the traditional approach, and truly learn it. Once you do, it might be a good idea to spice it up with some advancement in space and time, and see if it still works for you or not.
KARMIC ASTROLOG
When we speak about a mystic branch of Astrology such as Karmic Astrology, it gets clearer why the entire teaching is often dismissed by the scientific society, and how it stands in different religions and systems of faith. To believe in Karmic Astrology and get in honest touch with it, we seem to have to believe that reincarnation is actually possible and we lived and lived, over and over again, for who knows how long.
Our Past and Future Lives in the Now
Reincarnation in a traditional sense is not the only way to approach Karmic Astrology, and we’d might like to consider our „past lives“ being all a part of this moment, stacked in our subconscious and unconscious mind, creating a basis for the circumstances we live in today. After all, regression therapy and turning to past life experiences, only brings us closer to the depths of our mind and what lives inside it. We don’t have the ability to know whether we lived three centuries ago in the form of a beam of light, or as a medieval witch, but we know there is so much unexplained within our mind.
If we try to implement all techniques this branch uses to explain our current conditions, things that only happened a few years ago, or maybe even yesterday, on a smaller scale we might discover they actually work. We induce our karma every step of the way, every day making actions that have certain consequences. If we compress multiple lifetimes into one, we might discover that there’s a lot to be learned from what we know we experienced as children, adolescents or simply put – yesterday.
Important Factors
In Karmic Astrology, important elements in one’s chart are houses, planets that speak of our deep unconscious mind and karma – Mars and Saturn, every retrograde planet, Lunar Nodal axis and every separating aspect we have. All of these signals point to something that is deep in our mind and hidden from plain view, as well as something that already happened, events and feelings from the past, and our “debt to be repaid.”
A special additional tool for discovery in this field is the last conjunction of the Moon as the last entity the Soul touched, as well as its first upcoming conjunction to signalize the lesson that is yet to be learned. In general, the Moon represents our Soul and plays an important part in any karmic astrological analysis.
The Role of Houses
Just like Natal Astrology, Karmic Astrology relies greatly on our physical body presented by the houses in the natal chart. This is where house systems come in handy, and although many astrologers use Placidus house system for karmic readings too, some like to turn to equal house systems, in a way favoring the unimportance of the location on the planet where our past lives took place. If we are pro psychological approach, or simply believe in a philosophical reason for Placidus house setting in our natal chart, we will probably decide to use it without much doubt.
In general, houses are extremely important in Karmic Astrology. Their position and natural order serve as a basis for our understanding of cause and effect. Each action we make in one of the houses reflects directly to the next life’s consequence determined by the preceding house. This means that our house of partnership and relationships now (our seventh house) is a direct consequence of our struggle for life, sexuality, regeneration and finally death in our previous life. This rule can be applied to each house of the zodiac, and we will see that through them we actually create future karma, and are able to understand which actions led us to where we are now.
Evolution of the Soul
The main unit for any lesson to be learned is consistent with three lives we lived. To understand this better, imagine if the first life we live is the one in which we decide to take a stand for one side of a certain conflict. In the next one, naturally, we will end up on the opposite side, understanding their own motivation, faults, weaknesses and strengths. Only once we understand both can we really understand the middle ground and ways for the conflict to be resolved. This is what our third life is reserved for. Although this imagery might seem a bit plastic, this is the basic pulse of fate and the way our karma is considered to work.
We cannot (nor should we) refuse any role that was given to us. The key is to be as noble as possible and play it with respect and understanding for everyone around us, even for our enemy. It is necessary to take both roles, of the aggressor and their victim, and be happy in both, full of wisdom, tolerance and fine choices. This will allow us to climb on the next evolutionary step and truly resolve any conflict at hand.
FIXED STARS ASTROLOGY
Beyond visible planets that look a lot like stars in the night sky, there lies a series of those we can’t see with the naked eye. Most Astrology branches focus on this first line of celestial bodies that belongs to the Solar system. Fixed Stars Astrology goes far beyond these boundaries and into other galaxies and enormous stars that shine a light on us, existant millions of years ago. These stars that don’t move around the Sun and seem pretty much static from our point of view are appropriately called fixed stars.
History
Just like the light from each star dates way back, as far as the distance from the star to our planet in light years, this whole branch od Astrology is closely linked with our own history. Their light will manifest through stories and myths that once were. Those that weren’t forgotten, that have many ways of expression, and serve as incredible pointers for the path one’s life can take. In general, other constellations, just like astrological ones, carry in them ancient myths that were once told by the fireplace while gazing at the stars.
Mostly, Fixed Stars Astrology will rely on Greek mythology, since it seems to be well remembered and more colorful than many others. This is not in any way exclusive, and we will see that there are many constellations that would remind us of the Romans, or the Bible. Whatever the case, there are multiple ways to interpret one’s natal chart in correlation with these stories, if we only discover the main connection of the person to the outer Universe.
Natal Chart and Constellations
Constellations are often confused with signs of the zodiac for some reason, and we will use this opportunity to accent that these two are not the same. There is nothing that a sign and a corresponding zodiacal constellation have in common except a glimpse of history when they were close, and a story that hides beneath their nature. This story will usually be one (or more) of the myths too, just like it would be for other constellations we know today.
Each constellation in the observable Universe has its projection to the ecliptic, the Earth, and the zodiacal belt. Some of the constellations are visible only from the Northern hemisphere, while others will be visible from the Southern. Still, there are enough resources and ways to discover where our personal planets, the Moon or cusps of houses fall and connect to one of the points of those constellations. We will search for strongly set conjunctions, that carry stories supported by a natal chart, and this should help us find out which story fits one’s life path. If an orb between a personal point in a chart and a fixed star is larger than 2°, we will rarely see it as relevant.
Stories and Myths
All of the stories from ancient times seem to be in some wonderful correlation to the sky. There is no way of saying if people imagined and built all of them based on looking at the stars, or did they just link to one another by pure “chance” as if they wanted to prove to us that synchronicity does exist. Each storyteller is an artist in a way, a pillar that needs to ground something that vibrates “up there.” These stories are not always “catchable”, and they are certainly not always ended with a sleeping beauty being kissed or any prince arriving on a white horse. But if we understand which of them is ours, we might find a way to play it out, live it in a way the Universe needs us to, and eventually find our happy ending by simply moving forward and resolving its tasks.
Take a look at fixed stars in your own natal chart and see where they fit in. Check out your planets for support and see if you can conduct their larger story that will ultimately color your life and help you learn how to bond with the society on a higher scale. Once we fit into this web of stories, we become one with everyone else living them out. All we have to do to take control over our lives is accept that in them, there is no good or evil, and dualities are simply made up when it comes to human Soul.
ENERGY ASTROLOGY
One of the Astrology branches that came with its development in the 21st century is the one that connects celestial bodies with our chakras. Energy Astrology is based on a claim that each planet and light we use in our basic astrological approach corresponds to one of the chakras, while all signs and houses simply add their color to the story of planets.
Basic Principles
There are seven celestial bodies that can be seen by the naked eye in the night sky (or by day if we speak of the Sun). In Energy Astrology, each of them shows the flow of energy in one of our energy centers – chakras. The first chakra, or the root chakra, will be connected to Mars, and from someone’s chart we can find out where the problem lies from its position, dignity and aspects. The more challenging one position is, the more the energy will be obstructed and its flow disturbed.
It is incredible actually how these things are intertwined. If you check how the lack of balance will manifest in one of the chakras and compare it with the lack of balance that a corresponding planet brings, you will be surprised to discover that they work in a perfect parallel. So if we see that someone has their Mars in a challenging position, as astrologers we will instantly understand that this person has a problem with energy, fears and aggression, and these are all manifestations of a problem on the level of the first chakra.
Benefits
The positive side of this approach lies in the fact that it gives us more room for healing. Work with the energy field is quite common in Eastern medicine, and the approach of bioenergy healing has many followers from different professions and sides of the world. If nothing too serious, we can all at least relax our body and pay special attention to the spasm in the area where the chakra in question is located. Even the smallest change in our perception of it could lead to some benefits and changes.
The greatest thing this approach to Astrology has to offer is a connection it makes to our physical body. While most of the other branches focus on the mind, mental deduction and understanding of one’s life and character, Energy Astrology will remind us that we are all human, made of flesh and bone, and we need to take care of our physical needs first. This is a branch supported by meditation and all sorts of relaxation techniques, as well as typical Natal Chart Astrology that will give us a tool for understanding basic astrological data, and help us interpret different dignities and positions.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASTROLOGY
While Astrology is this wide field of incredible symbolism, the way it influences our psychological state and the depths of our mind can be quite revealing. Even since Carl Jung established the archetypal connection of the symbols with already established psychological phenomena, many open-minded psychologists have tried out his approach. In time, it was discovered that this connection between a science and a „pseudoscience“, what they like to call Astrology, can be made quite logically.
Connection
Astrology and Psychology have been connected in many different ways, but the most common and important one is the connection with Natal Astrology. Although it is a basis for almost every other astrological branch, here it has an especially important role, as it clarifies a certain problem a client might have, before the point of personal understanding and dialogue is reached. Although predictive methods are truly rarely used in this approach, mostly due to the importance of psychological profession to psychology astrologers, they can come in very handy once the root of the problem is established, and triggers for its manifestation can be foretold.
Balance
The biggest challenge this branch brings is to find balance between the two, since it is practiced by people who are diversely educated. This gives incredible potential to work with clients and with anyone’s self as well, but only if both “sciences” are used equally and their significance is clear from any point of view. From the point of Astrology, and the excitement of incredible circumstance and deep understanding of the Universe it brings, Psychology can seem to be too strict or limited by the expectations from the human race. On the other hand, something as grounded and real as Psychology often observes Astrology as a bit more of a hobby and takes away its worth.
The key to a successful relationship between the two lies in genuine passion for both, and this isn’t so hard to come by if you truly love to search for meaning in the depths of your mind.
Dreams
The incredible symbolism of each dream you ever dreamt is magnificently explained through Astrology. Unfortunately, we are faced with the superficial dream interpretation way too often, and this takes away the true meaning of dreams and our way to reach for our subconscious minds. While we fail to notice, the greatest archetypal symbolism is focused right here. A dream of water has its perfect analogy in emotion – the Moon, just like a dream about flying has its analogy in one’s rational mind and the field of incredible ideas - Aquarius.
You don’t have to be a Psychology Astrologer to understand that these connections can greatly improve the quality of your life. If you get well acquainted with both views on any problem that is being repeated in your life, it will be an immense relief to discover the patterns that cause it in the first place. Resolutions of any problem ahead lie in our ability to solve what we’ve already been through, and if we approach our life as this wonderful equation, this branch of Astrology will help us know two variables in advance.
MEDICAL ASTROLOGY
To truly understand what Medical Astrology is, we need to understand the connection of different body parts with each other, and the way the entire system of our body works. Medical Astrology is based on the correlation of each body part and each organ with a certain symbolism, and as such, works very well with Energy Astrology.
Elements
In the use of Medical Astrology, we have to keep in mind that our body is one whole, instead of splitting it into many pieces, but still keep our focus on specific things that might surface as physical conditions due to planetary positions. The most important thing to understand is the importance of each element before we start making conclusions on someone’s health conditions and their intensity.
Every physical state and our tendency to allow the problem to go this deep, is always connected to the element of Earth. This is why people with the lack of this element in their chart can be so interesting to observe in this aspect of life. An incredible example of elements in Medical Astrology is clearly seen in those that have only one planet in the element of Earth, as they rely on it greatly and in a way spend it, leading to all sorts of conditions related to its symbolism even if it is set in a very good place.
In order for any problem to reach the level of our physical body, it has to be neglected while it was on our mental and emotional planes. This is especially true for health conditions that require surgery and the removal of something that isn’t supposed to be found where it is. Although this may sound strange, every surgical procedure speaks of unchangeable variables, things we couldn’t resolve, and finally pushed deep enough into our unconscious, where they had to manifest as a foreign body within our own.
Illness
Whatever the problem in our physiology, it is a not a consequence of our conscious intent, but an unconscious energy of the action already made. We might say that all of them come down to the nature of Saturn and this would be, in a way, correct. They come as part of our genetic inheritance and karma, but this also points to our sense of responsibility and how much of it we are willing to take.
On the other side of this equation, the Sun stands proud and tall, as a beam of light and life force itself. It teaches us that there is nothing we cannot metabolize and turn into gold, if we only raise our awareness high enough. Each medical analysis of one’s chart comes down to these two bodies, the light and the darkness, that give the overall balance when combined.
Organs
Each organ in our body has its function and relates to a certain astrological image. There are differences in approaches to this symbolism, and you will sometimes have trouble defining which planet rules which organ and why. For example, our heart is connected to the Sun and the Moon at the same time, and it will not always be easy to recognize where the health problem comes from. Keep in mind that our goal in Medical Astrology isn’t exactly to point to the body part in question, but define potential challenges in their core and work on a way for them to be resolved. Our main goal is to balance our clients and help them find a way to revive the symbolism of planets lost, fallen and finally found. We have a task to move them from the point of dissatisfaction that led to their illness in the first place, and make room for personal growth in order to defeat it.
EVOLUTIONARY ASTROLOGY
Evolutionary Astrology is a concept that puts our Soul in the forefront, and helps us discover what this life on planet Earth carries as our lesson, and what we’ve already been through before we were born. This is one of the most mystical of all Astrology branches, simply because it mostly relies on reincarnation to begin with, and presumes that our Soul has a road to travel in many lifetimes. However, there is another approach that allows us to implement this branch into our scientific philosophy, as it can also be observed as a travel of the Soul through many levels of our subconscious and unconscious mind.
Practice
In general, this branch is presented by the Jeffrey Wolf Green method. In its basic presumptions, this method is concise, and what separates it from many others is its focus on ways to answer one important question – why? It gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of one’s Soul, our Soul, and its successive lifetimes that serve to separate human desire from potential for growth and evolution. By this theory we are all on a way to reconnect with the Universal Source energy, and our bodies represent lifetimes with certain steps on this path.
This is a branch used very often combined with Psychological Astrology and past life regression therapy, which makes it one of the most useful branches of all when it comes to human psyche. Evolution can simply be observed as personal growth.
Planetary Roles
Evolutionary Astrology focuses on Pluto and the Lunar Nodes, as representatives of our previous incarnations and our connection to the “underworld”, our inner world, or the past, however you’d like to name it. Every natal chart will be interpreted in relation to these entities, and every personal planet will represent a point of connection to them. Very often, this branch is connected to the use of the system of equal houses, a need obviously similar to karmic astrology and Saturn’s or Pluton’s themes.
In this type of reading, our chart will be a tool to add color to the story behind the Nodes, combined with Pluto and its position in house and sign. Pluto is the main actor here, for it represents the desires of the Soul that have yet to be fulfilled, leading to the search for satisfaction of unhealthy desires that cannot come to life, setting free from them, and living through an inner process of transformation that brings us closer to the Universe itself.
The Victimless World
The wonderful thing Evolutionary Astrology gives us apart from the understanding behind every “Why?” is the absence of the nature of a victim. This is a branch that will explain why some things would happen to someone weak and powerless, someone unable to defend themselves, a child or a baby. No one is a victim here, as we all simply live out our roles, tied to our desires and weaknesses throughout as many lifetimes as needed. This relation we can build with ourselves when learning about Evolutionary Astrology, gives us the opportunity to look within, and truly take responsibility for each and every aspect of our lives.
LOCAL SPACE ASTROLOGY
In order to discover where our subjective impression of a certain location on Earth is beautiful or challenging, we will turn to Local Space Astrology. Although not typically used, this branch gives us the opportunity to work on space around us, fulfill planetary needs on a personal level, and truly change the circumstances in our lives by changing our inner state of perception through the outside world.
Coordinate Systems
When studying Natal Chart Astrology, as well as most of its other branches, we will usually use the ecliptic coordinate system. This means that planetary positions in the chart are seen as projected on the ecliptic, while the house division is also applied to it.
In Local Space Astrology we will use the horizon coordinate system, connected to the point in which the observer is located. This means that in a chart to be used in Local Space Astrology, planetary positions are projected onto a sphere which puts the observer in its center, and has a surface that covers the distance our eyes can reach. This is an imaginary bubble we are set in every moment in time, and about 30 kilometers far from us wherever we might be located.
Chart Interpretation
The chart obtained in this way is a bit different from the one we usually see. Instead of a house division on twelve separate pieces, a horoscope made in a horizon coordinate system will have its Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern points that serve similar to angular house cusps. These points are analogous to the beginning of cardinal signs as well, and have a great impact on the way we attract a certain atmosphere in our lives.
Practical Use
Our subjective view of the world we live in may change greatly with the use of Local Space Astrology. Its main benefits hide in the fact that anything can be changed, from planetary dignities to the aspects they make and their importance in a natal chart. We will find that there are incredible places on our planet, which have the ability to teach us how to overcome certain difficulties in our charts, our own.
In a practical sense, this means that we can choose to visit a place where our negative aspects won’t be objectively neutralized, but the way we perceive them would. Imagine the power we can find within once we realize that there is no fate we cannot overcome by pure willpower and inner work.
Home Furnishing
One of the most practical uses of Astrology is the application of Local Space Astrology in our home. If we simply project this horoscope to the place we live in, well-oriented and centered, we have a tool to satisfy planetary needs on a very personal level. Each planet in this horoscope will act as a planetary line that breathes and lives in our home, and we will often find that these lines go through windows and walls, that we put plants and trash cans on them, creating an environment that attracts certain events on a subconscious level.
Each planetary line in our home should be positively linked to a symbolism we want to accent, and with this knowledge, we can drastically improve the quality of our lives. In time, our subjective perception creates our circumstances, and we get healed by a simple furniture rearrangement, as much as allowed by our primal unconscious force.
MUNDANE ASTROLOGY
A special branch of Astrology that doesn’t focus on the individual, but rather on mundane events on the level of the world, countries and governments is Mundane Astrology. It works on a slightly higher level, with a purpose to understand fluctuations of the society in general, political and financial changes and the situation in a country and its relation to neighbors and the rest of the world.
Individual in the Mundane
We are all influenced by mundane events and everything our country is going through. The connection to the world “outside” of our micro-cosmos and the surroundings we are in daily is presented by Jupiter and Saturn, our two guardians. Each of us is permeable to events outside of our home and our personal life up to some point, and weakly positioned Jupiter and Saturn speak of one’s inability to separate from the overall image of the country they live in, and finally the situation in the world.
History
Throughout history, the common use of Astrology meant using either Mundane or Horary Astrology. Both of them didn’t need the time of birth, and although Mundane Astrology considers the time of birth for each country today, it was a bit more simplified for ages. It came down to two basic archetypes, the Moon representing the people, and the Sun representing the government or the ruler. The only natal chart interpreted was the chart of the ruler, and events would be recognized in it as well, since the ruler represented the country her ruled.
In time, the image of Mundane Astrology we know today was built into our way to interpret general flows of the human race and life as we know it.
Planets in Mundane Astrology
The most important celestial bodies in Mundane Astrology are transcendent planets, or those that orbit beyond Saturn, the last visible planet in the Solar system. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move in much slower cycles and often point to the way one entire system breathes in and out throughout time. This is why their role in mundane events is incredibly important and obvious in any large moves, changes or conflicts.
General planetary positioning will speak of general issues in the world, and each country will have its own natal chart, defined by the time it formed. This can be information difficult to obtain, and it is a good thing to check all of the available information several times before we come to any conclusions on the way a chart of a country “works”. Each country can also be seen through the chart of its ruler, for the ruler becomes the representative of the entire state and loses his or hers basic individual role. Because the people in one country are represented by the Moon of the ruler, it is always good to have someone with a strongly positioned Moon in charge, or the position of those who live on that territory isn’t very promising.
Houses
Each house in the horoscope of the country (and its ruler) will have specific meaning a little different from that each house has in the horoscope of an individual. So for example, just like the third house in a personal horoscope will be connected to short trips, driving, neighbors and communication, in a country’s horoscope it will be connected to traffic routes, neighboring countries and the mass media. All houses will have their specific meaning and carry their own symbolism a bit different than the one we are generally used to in other branches of Astrology.
